Hey everyone...
As you know we are less than a week away from the launch of WWE '13, hitting state side this Tuesday...October 30th!
Last year after my initial review for the game (which I will do again this year) I used this blog to dive into my favorite mode in the WWE Games franchise...
Universe mode!
Over the course of months I picked apart that mode, with what I liked, what I didn't like. What I hated, what I wanted to see changed. etc...etc...
From what I've read this year with Universe 3.0 it seems like a majority of my complaints have been addressed and I couldn't be happier! But no mode is ever perfect, I know it, THQ knows it, and you the WWE Games Universe knows it.
So once again I will embarking on yet another Universe adventure, and to borrow a bad pun from WWE '12, it will be...
BIGGER...BADDER...BETTER!!!
Stay tuned for more information coming in November and my review of WWE '13 either at the end of this month or early November. Thanks for reading, and as always...

WWE '13 Hands-On Impressions...
This past weekend I was in Los Angeles, California for the 25th
anniversary of WWE Summer Slam. But more
importantly, I was there with some other members of the WWE Games Community to check
out WWE ’13 for the very first time.
Unlike last year however, we didn’t get nearly as much time
with the game like we did the year before.
So I sincerely apologize ahead of time if some information you all are
looking for is not present here, myself and the rest of the community did the
best we could with the time we had. So let’s
not waste any more time shall we? Let’s get right to it!
As I’m sure all of you watched live over the weekend, the
roster reveal for WWE ’13 was simply massive! The biggest roster in WWE Games
history, but THQ wasn’t willing to stop there.
Cory Ledesma noted during the press event that with the inclusion of DLC
characters, WWE ’13’s final roster number would be over one hundred! That’s
right folks, over 100 superstars, divas, and legends will make up WWE ’13 once
DLC is all said and done…Are you ready? You should be!
When it comes to gameplay, those of you familiar with the
control schemes and gameplay from WWE ’12 will feel right at home when you pick
up a controller to play WWE ’13. While
the basic gameplay mechanics of last year feel the same, the amount of polish
and new animations that have been added will be very evident to any hardcore
WWE Games player.
The entire experience feels much smoother than last year,
with moves connecting every time exactly how they’re supposed to. Which was a very big complaint among fans
with WWE ’12 so it was very refreshing to see things like that get taken care
of in this year’s game.
One of the new match types making its long awaited return this WWE Games this year is the Special Referee Match. But don't think its all fun and games as the referee this time, if you step out of line too many times...None other than Johnny Ace himself will come out with a new referee and eject you from the match (voice over work and all). So make sure you're a fair referee, or you might be wished well in your future endeavors.
Besides that, only a couple things bothered me while playing some exhibition, regarding things such as move sets and the presence, or lack thereof for the newly touted feature for WWE ’13 “WWE Live”. While I was guaranteed that the build we were playing was far from final and that my complaints wouldn’t be a problem later on (It only had a handful of playable superstars and divas in it) I couldn’t help but feel disappointed with how it was presented to me, the crowd noise just wasn’t that impressive to me at all. But my opinion of “WWE Live” changed in a big way when I experienced it inside the crown jewel of WWE ’13 (so far) Attitude Era Mode.
Attitude Era Mode begins with the rise of the group known
simply as D-Generation X and spans over a two year period reaching the climax
at WrestleMania XV.
In this mode the chapters are as follows…
In this mode the chapters are as follows…
- The Rise of D-X
- Austin 3:16
- Brothers of Destruction
- The Great One
- Mankind
- WrestleMania XV
In these chapters you will play as Shawn Michaels, Triple H,
Bret Hart, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Kane, The Rock, Mick Foley (All 3
faces?), and the Undertaker as you will embark on a trip down memory lane or
perhaps experience for the first time, what made the Attitude Era one of the
greatest times in the history of professional wrestling.
While my time with the mode was short I couldn’t help but be
impressed with the sound of the crowd and the commentary in this mode. When I first heard about and imagined what
WWE Live would be like, this was it. It
truly blew me away by just how good everything sounded. Each match I played reminded me a lot of the “Jordan
Moments” in NBA 2K11, where you would have certain objectives to complete in
the match before picking up the victory.
You don’t wish to complete the objectives? That’s cool, just
go ahead and win the match. But if you
want to unlock more than 100 of the games unlockables this year I think you’ll
want to take on as many of the match objectives as possible. The ones I saw were fairly simple to do and I
enjoyed the challenge of being able to pull them off.
I really can’t wait to get my hands on the entire Attitude
Era mode to see all of the great moments and matches they have included into
this mode. One thing that certainly
peaks my interest is the fact that the final chapter of Attitude Era mode is
simply “WrestleMania XV”.
So I wonder which matches from that pay per view we will be
experiencing in WWE ’13, if you need a refresher course…with the roster as it
stands, these are the matches that are possible to recreate in WWE ’13!
- Mankind vs. Paul Wight (The Big Show)
- Kane vs. Triple H
- Shane McMahon vs. X-Pac for the WWE European Championship
- The Undertaker vs. The Big Boss Man inside Hell in a Cell
- “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. The Rock for the WWE Championship
Which of these matches will be included in Attitude Era mode
still remain to be seen, but all are most certainly possible. I would have to believe that any important
moment regarding these eight superstars over the course of those two years will
be included in some way shape or form inside of this mode. I honestly can’t remember the last time I was
ever this excited for a story mode like feature in WWE Games.
The last thing I was able to check out was the only creation
mode that was available to us in this build, none other than the vastly
improved “Create an Arena” mode. As you
all can recall last year we were able to change the basically the ring and all
that surrounded it last year leaving many wishing for more customization
throughout the rest of the arena, well fear not WWE Games fans because THQ
listened and delivered in a BIG way!
Not only is everything we loved from last year back, but
they have added a TON of improvements! Starting with the stage itself, there
are several pre made stages ranging from old Raw and Smackdown sets to a lot of
old classic WWE pay per views, as well as some others that I think were made up
just for this mode.
From there you can edit them anyway you like. Not a big fan of the lightning bolts during
the Raw on Spike TV era of WWE TV, get rid of them! Want your own design on the
stage or the ramp? Go for it! It’s completely up to you. It certainly looked like everything about the
stage was completely customizable and I wish I would have had more time to look
through it all but what I saw was extremely impressive.
It’s not just the stage you can edit either but the actual
arena itself. Want your arena to be in a
very small venue (like Ring of Honor) you can totally do that here. How about a HUGE outdoors stadium? Of course
you can! Knock yourself out; the choice is up to you!
You even get to select what type of crowd you want in your
arena, from the modern crowd of today to the Attitude era crowd from
yesteryear, it’s completely up to you!
The ideas and possibilities for my own created arenas were
running through my head non-stop while I was looking through this mode and I’m
sure if you’re a big creation fan like me you are very excited right now at the
wide arrange of possibilities this mode is going to bring to the table this
year.
To think there are so many things left to be revealed,
Universe 3.0…the rest of the creation suites…online features and modes…and who knows
what other surprises THQ has up their sleeves for us to reveal between now and
October 30th.
Walking away from WWE ’13 this weekend was hard to do. And now the very long wait from now till
October 30th begins, I saw someone ask Cory Ledesma this week on
Twitter to create a time machine, I won’t lie…that sounds like a pretty great
idea right about now!
This weekend I will throw up answers from the questions you
guys asked me last weekend to try and get answered regarding WWE ’13. Keep in mind, if I don’t answer your question
it’s simply because I don’t have the answer, not that I’m ignoring it or choosing
not to answer.
If you have any other questions that I didn’t cover here or
just can’t wait till this weekend for me to answer hit me up on Twitter
@RAWFShowtime and I’ll do the best I can to answer as many questions as
possible!
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it, as always…

You've got WWE '13 questions? I look to bring you answers!
Hey everyone,
This weekend I will be in Los Angeles for the 25th anniversary of WWE Summer Slam, but more importantly than that, I along with a few of my WWE Games Community Leaders will be on hand to get our hands on WWE ’13 for the first time.
I know a lot of you have questions, hell…we all do! And I’ll be honest, going in I don’t know what I’m going to see of the game and how much I’ll even be allowed to talk about afterwards, but I most certainly want to give back to the great WWE Games Community this weekend while I’m in Los Angeles.

So here is what we’re gonna do!
It’s quite simple actually, reply to this entry with your
question on WWE ’13. Please limit it to
no more than 3 questions per person as I hope to be able to answer as many
questions as I possibly can.
Keep in mind, after this weekend if I don’t answer your
question, it’s probably because either I don’t have the answer or I’m not
allowed to say yet. Either way, know I
will do my absolute best to give you guys as many answers as possible.
On top of that, I will also have a hands-on impression write-up with the game from this weekend and if I’m lucky an exclusive interview with the man himself, Cory Ledesma…Keeping my fingers cross on that one!

Is Reliving Sports Past our Video Game Future?
I still remember the first time I heard the idea behind NBA
2K11. The Jordan Moments, the chance to
replay the greatest moments of Michael Jordan’s career in video game form
really got me excited for the release of NBA 2K that year. More so than probably any sports game I could
remember. To be able to relive my child
hood, the reason why I’m still a fan of the NBA today was just an amazing thing
to me.
With WWE ’13 just a few short months away, THQ is about to
let us embark on one of the biggest golden ages in professional wrestling over
the last 30 years…The Attitude Era.
The era that changed the business as we know it and the time
period we look back upon so fondly today as the greatest time this industry has
ever seen. In October we get to relive this
again, while some get to experience this for the first time. A history lesson if you will to the younger
generation as to why this time was so important in our business and why
arguably WWE is still around today.
There were so many moments in the Attitude Era that I hope I’ll be able to replay and experience come October 30th but I wonder how the entire set up of this mode is going to go.
As we already know, the Attitude mode is replacing Road to WrestleMania this year so it comes to question how this mode will be structured. Will it be a bunch of “greatest moment” matches from the era? Will we have own specific storyline paths for different Attitude Era stars that can be played separately like past versions of Road to WrestleMania?

Or could we possibly see a take of last year’s mode, where a
bunch of stories are branched together and we play as said superstars as we
relive one of the greatest times in the history of professional wrestling?
At this point, no one really knows for sure. One thing we do know however is that Summer Slam is only a few short weeks away. THQ is planning a huge reveal this year for WWE ’13 and I hope a majority of our questions get answered there…only time will tell.
But at this point it makes you wonder, first it was Jordan and his fellow legends in the NBA, now its WWE with the Attitude Era led by the Texas Rattlesnake himself, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. What could be next?

My WWE '13 Wishlist
Hello WWE Games fans, it’s that time of year again. When THQ announces their latest WWE title and
the hype train towards its release date begins.
The game this year, as we already know is WWE ’13 and will be arriving in stores on October 30th for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii. Although a version for the PSVita has yet to be announced I can’t help but hold onto hope that I will have some portable WWE gaming goodness this holiday season as well.
I’m not going to sit here and bore you with the currently known features of the game and the rumors swirling around the internet regarding everyone else. If you’re reading this, chances are…you already know all that. My purpose of this article is pretty simple. To be the voice of the voiceless for the WWE Games Community in hopes of sparking change in this years games release and for future WWE games to come.
Last year, around this time I sat in a THQ board room with several other community leaders and bounced ideas and concerns with the WWE Games design team about WWE ’12 and the overall future of the franchise.
Due to unforeseen circumstances this year that led to our old Community Managers leaving and new ones arriving, myself and the rest of the WWE Games Community Leaders were not able to see WWE ’13 early this year as many of us would have liked. Not to be able to play the game first, but to be able to provide crucial feedback and critiques that will help make the overall game better.
As Sheamus said on G4, THQ plans to once again have their big reveal for WWE ’13 at Summer Slam. And while I’m excited to see what they bring to the table this year, part of me worries that August I just a hint too late to impact the kind of change that we could have provided just a few short months earlier.
So with that being said, I’m going to put together a wish list of sorts for WWE ’13. What I hope has been fixed/added. And what they could do to help the overall product. Be sure to leave comments below giving your own thoughts and ideas as well. I’m pretty sure the fine folks at THQ will read this and take your thoughts and opinions to heart. Just speak in a constructive and professional manner. You’d be shocked how far that will take you in life.
Without further ado, here is my wishlist for WWE ’13:
_______________________________________________________
- I want to CONTROL my Universe with version 3.0:
Last year’s Universe mode was a huge improvement over last years. But there were a lot of minor things that I feel could have been done to make it an overall better experience. We have a calendar now, and while its great I can edit the three main shows…the rest of the days I see every week are going to waste. It shouldn’t be that way. If I want to great a show on Tuesday nights like NXT, I should be able to do that. If I want to create an all Divas show with their own championships on Saturday to take them off the main rosters. I should be allowed to do that as well. More control, more options will at the end of the day lead to more replay value. I want to be able to say at this time next year I’m still neck deep in Universe 3.0 with WWE ’13. Sadly, and truthfully the same can’t be said about WWE ’12 at this stage of the game.
Furthermore, when I tell the game I don’t want a “Remarkable Match” to take place and I replace it with something else, DON’T keep putting the same match in every freaking week until I end up having to sim it to just get rid of it! If I take it out one week that doesn’t mean I want it the next, it means I don’t want it at all. Do not force your matches upon me that not only don’t make any sense in my current Universe but frustrate me to the point where I no longer want to play the mode.
I could go on and on about things I’d like to see changed and fixed in Universe mode but that will probably be another article for another time.
- Bring arena interaction to the next level:
While it’s nice that we now have the inclusion of “Oh My God” moments this year that surround the ring. It’s time to allow to make total use of the arena around us. The stages are beautifully done every year, but they mean absolutely nothing if we can’t interact with them like we can on television. I want to be able to throw people in the LED mini trons. Slam their heads into the spinning WWE logo on the stage. Hell, even be able to THROW people off the stage fight around it, just like they do almost every week now on WWE TV. The ultimate WWE experience needs to include something like this. If we see it on RAW every Monday night, we should be able to do it in the game as well.
- Take Creation up a notch:
I love all the creation modes that the WWE games franchise brings to us each and every year. As far as I’m concerned, no one does it better. But after last year, I can’t help but feel we deserve a lot more.
While the name stitching in create a superstar/diva was a welcome addition (one that I have been asking for years mind you) there just weren’t enough real names to create the people you would want to create. The amount of names this year needs to be picked up a notch. But that’s just the start…
As far as create a superstar goes they have a lot to fix. Not only did they hardly add any new clothing items last year. They still didn’t fix the ability to correctly adjust the wrestlers skin tone and the transparency issue on tattoos and other items was still a big concern. While the PS3 users this year may just be satisfied at the fact that they get as many layers at 360 owners this year, I don’t think that’s a enough.
I’m not saying rehaul create a superstar, because that would be insane. I’m simply saying take what’s already there and build upon it in a big way! We have enough blur restrictions already, lets not limit what we can do with lack of attire and clothing options again in WWE ’13. The more stuff you can put in there the better. The lack of specific diva clothing items for tops and bottoms were the WORST it’s ever been. That needs to be fixed this year, THQ knows how vocal the diva fan community is. So let’s not give them a reason rise up and riot again this year shall we?
-Make brawling backstage FUN again:
I still fondly remember the days of Here Comes The Pain, when I could brawl all over the arena going from room to room causing destruction and pain upon my opponents. Not only was it fun, it was extremely entertaining to do.
Now a days, when I see the backstage brawl option show up I groan. They aren’t fun anymore. The move sets are ridiculously restricted and the entire match revolves around irish whipping your opponent into objects that may or may not connect to knock them out, in a game that will evidently revolve around the Attitude Era, this needs to change…and it needs to change now!
First things first, we need to be able to enter the backstage area through the main stage in a pin falls count anywhere match. I don’t care if there are loading times, I don’t care how it has to be done…but it needs to be taken care of.
From there, only a few simple things need to be done to make brawling backstage fun again…

From there, only a few simple things need to be done to make brawling backstage fun again…
- No more limited move sets
- Crowd noise and chants are a must, as you can hear them on TV when brawls happen.
- Commentary, for the same reason as above.
- Allow the referee to follow for pin falls or submissions.
- Knockouts are cool, but they shouldn’t be the only way to win.
- Proper sound effects EVERYWHERE, if I throw someone into a wall or door and it doesn’t make a noise, it takes you out of the moment.
-Community
Creations and Online need to work DAY ONE:
I often stop and think about, as well as WWE ’12 sold. How much better the game would have done with
properly functioning online and community creations right out of the gate.
While this isn’t just a THQ problem it has been plaguing a number of huge games as of late, the problem is where most of those games get their issues sorted out in days. We unfortunately weren’t that lucky this year.
Part of me kinda wished that Community Creations had never been invented, as I often wondered how much easier and smoother online would have worked last year without CC being there and featured crashing the servers on a daily basis. But at the end of the day Community Creations is here to stay and it needs to work right from the get go.
I know THQ has been hard at work on the servers for WWE games ever since WWE ’12 launched last November, if you think they haven’t been and you think they are just sitting on their hands while all of this goes on, you’re out of your damn mind.
So here’s hoping what they’ve figured out in the last six months will pay dividends to the final product of WWE ’13. Because at the end of the day, while the single player experience could end up being incredible, a glitchy online could ruin the entire overall experience, I for one surely hope we don’t see anything like that happening again come October 30th.

These are the main issues that immediately come to mind when I think about the future of WWE Games with WWE ’13 and beyond. While there are several other small things they can do to help improve upon the product going forward, those will be covered in future entrees.
I’m curious to hear what you all in the WWE Games community think about what needs to be done to help improve WWE ’13. What’s your wish list? Sound off in the comments section below and allow your voice to be heard, until next time…

Injuries Pile Up in Universe...
Back here once again for another week of my WWE Universe as we gear up towards the WWE PPV that no one remembers, Over The Limit! After the way Nitro ended last week I'm kind of excited to get back there. But we have Raw and Clash as well...So lets see what's happening tonight on WWE Raw!
Raw:
John Morrison vs. Mr. Showtime
Thoughts: Showtime finally has been booked again after his odd feud with DDP and his alliance with Victoria and Styx. Hopefully this will spark another feud for him and allow him to go up the card. Morrison as the heel seems to work, cause the crowd seemingly boos louder for him as a heel than any guy I've ever seen in the game. Not quite sure why, but its pretty cool. Good match overall, Showtime bloodied Morrison and went for the Pedigree. But Randy Orton came out to break up the pinfall. Showtime took exception to that and went outside the ring and pummeled Orton till he ran away to the back. Showtime ended up getting the win with the sharpshooter.
Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker
Thoughts: Normally Showtime wouldn't interfere in the Deadman's business. But after Orton stuck his nose where it didn't belong Showtime felt Orton earned a receipt. The ref takes a bump, Showtime runs out and Pedigrees Orton allowing the Undertaker to get the easy win. Sure the Viper probably won't be happy about this...but he should have stayed out of Showtime's business to begin with!
Dominique Frost vs. Victoria Valentine
Thoughts: Should be interesting to see how the champion fares against a new challenger in Victoria. Going to let the computer AI control this one as I really don't care who wins this one. Should be good either way! It was a great back and forth match, in the end Victoria fell just a bit short as Dominique hit the Ice Pick to pick up the victory. Would have been nice to get a win over the champion, but it was not to be.
CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar vs. ???
Thoughts: Oooo, a mystery opponent. I really hope this doesn't suck. It could create a pretty cool awesome new feud for the champion in Punk, I guess we will wait and see what happens. OH MAN!!! Triple H is back! Just a couple weeks after CM Punk injured him at the PPV. Business is about to pick up! After countless near falls and the tide turning every which way, Lesnar was able to score an F-5 on Triple H to land a BIG victory to close out Raw! After the match Triple H gets carted off on a stretcher AGAIN!!??! SERIOUSLY!?!?! Wow! This guys more injury prone than Kevin Nash! Haha!
CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS:
Robert Roode vs. Justin Gabriel
Thoughts: Already tired of this storyline but when its a remarkable match I guess I'm not really given much of a choice in the matter here. Probably just gonna let the AI handle this one and see what happens. Haha Susan Rigger comes out and stands in the corner of Justin Gabriel. Roode doesn't look pleased. Kind of amusing. Was a pretty one sided match too as Robert Roode defeats Gabriel with the Crippler Crossface. After the match Bobbi Jackson runs out and raises Robert Roode's hand in victory...Good grief!
Giselle Anderson vs. Sarah Richardson
Thoughts: Divas from Raw and Nitro battling it out here on the Clash. Surely a win for one or the other will greatly help them rise of the ranks of their own show. Bragging rights on the line here tonight. Giselle pretty much dominated the match up. At once point Susan Rigger who apparently is getting paid by the appearance runs out to try and help Sarah out. Eventually the referee kicks her out letting Giselle pick up the win.
Batista and Brodus Clay vs. Kurt Angle and the Ultimate Warrior
Thoughts: I don't even know how to begin to explain this match. Just down right scary seeing WWE '12 form these two random teams. Since I'm not a fan of tag matches in this game I'm just gonna let the CPU AI handle this match up and we will see what happens. A really fun back and forth match with an absolute garbage ending as Ultimate Warrior pinned Batista after a headbutt in a pinfall that looked to be clearly in the ropes. Whatever, lets just pretend that match never happened shall we?
NITRO:
John Cena and Mark Henry vs. R-Truth and Eddie Guerrero
Thoughts: Pretty damn sick and tired of this match, but when its a "remarkable moment" I don't have any other choice but to sit through it and let the dumb story run its course. Truth comes out along with no help and fights on his own for a while. While Truth is getting beat down Eddie comes out and cleans house officially returning this handicap match back to a tag match. Eddie ends up getting the pinfall of Mark Henry to pick up the victory for his team. Oh how I wish this storyline would end, but I doubt it!
Goldberg vs. William Regal
Thoughts: DA MAN has arrived in my universe and will debut on Nitro against the European Champion, William Regal. Will the streak begin here tonight? Or will Regal shut it down before it even gets started? Regal starts off hot at first but once Goldberg got his wits about him it was domination for the rest of the match. The spear followed by the jackhammer sealed Regal's fate. Goldberg 1-0
Katrina Showtime vs. Jasmine
Thoughts: The current number one contender for the WCW Women's title in Jasmine faces off against the champion in a non-title match. Gonna let the CPU AI do this match and see what happens. It was a pretty even match but Jasmine defeats the champion with the anaconda vice. A move which she doesn't even have. Upon further inspection I have discovered that Jasmines move set for some reason has been altered to CM Punks?! OOOK!?! Great, now I have THAT to fix...*grumbles* Moving on!!!
Sting, AJ Styles, and the Ultimate Warrior vs. Wade Barrett, Ric Flair, and Randy Savage
Thoughts: I normally don't like to do tag matches but something just screamed six man tag team main event on Nitro to end this show. Everyone got pretty equal time. The match ended with everyone in the ring while Sting was able to make Barrett tap to the Scorpion Deathlock. Awesome ending to Nitro seeing Warrior, Sting, and AJ stand tall in victory. After the match the referee is checking on Wade Barrett. Oh good lord I don't need another injury. I thought the patch was supposed to correct this garbage! *groans*
Another week in my Universe has gone by. In one weeks time, I have someone return from injury (Triple H) Only to be re-injured in the SAME match he returned from. Followed up by an injury to an important champion on Nitro in Wade Barrett. I used to think the injuries were cool but now they are down right annoying, and the patch has seemed to make things worse instead of making them better. Really frustrating!
At the same token, I can't help but feel like I need to take a look at both rosters going into next week and see if there are some people that can be wished well in their future endeavors. Rosters are kinda crowded right now on both sides. Wanna see if trimming the fat going forward will help...We shall see!
Thanks for reading have a great day!
